Learn about the history of Peacemaking in the PCUSA—The Presbyterian Historical Society has recently processed the Peacemaking Program records and have a colorful summary on their Jan. 3rd blog. Their collection covers “the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program (PPP) and its staff as they worked to find ways for the denomination to respond to Christ’s call to be peacemakers. Additionally, there are records of the Presbyterian United Nations Office (PUNO) and the files of Reverend Donald J. Wilson, chiefly documenting his work in peacemaking and international affairs (before the creation of the PPP). The materials are primarily in English with some items in Arabic, Korean, and Spanish . . .”
Our Presbytery’s Peacemaking quilt celebrates that history and challenges us to join in Christ’s work. It’s was fashioned by Susan Barnes (TE formerly of East Iowa) in part out of pieces donated by our churches. Invite it to your church for a first or second visit. It’s currently in Muscatine and ready to move to its next home. Contact Lisa or First Presbyterian in Muscatine. Susan wrote an accompanying sermon and children’s talk, which Lisa can send you.
Attention those interested in supporting the work of our International Peacemaker Efi Latsoudi and that of the refugees she ministers with:
a sample of the refugees’ handiwork marketed through Lesvos Solidarity is currently visiting Mt. Pleasant First Presbytery Church and can come to your church, along with information on how to buy some. For more information contact Lisa or Sarah Hegar in Mt. Pleasant.
