Your past peacemaking offerings have made possible the visits of our International Peacemakers. Our Peacemaker this Oct. 3-6 is Frances Namoumou of Fiji, the Pacific Conference of Churches’ Ecumenical Enabler for Ecologic Stewardship and Climate Justice Program. She leads South Pacific islands churches’ effort to accompany and mitigate the damage to all losing their homelands and means of living to climate change. Every island is experiencing different challenges. She is also their climate action advocate to the rest of the world. You can hear her in the following places:
- Recording from Thursday, Oct. 3, at Milan Presbyterian Church, Milan, IL. Click here.
- Cedar Rapids, on Oct. 4th, Friday 7 p.m. at Olivet Presbyterian Church, 237 10 St. NW, she will present her program.
- Rowley, Presbyterian Church, 212 Park Ave., Rowley, will host her for a lunch at noon on Saturday, Oct. 5th, with her program to follow. Come for lunch or come at 12:45 to hear the program only. If you want to give a heads up that you’re coming for lunch, contact Pastor Lisa at lrossthedens@gmail.com, but feel free to drop in if you don’t RSVP because we usually have enough!
- Sunday, Oct. 6th Frances will participate in First Presbyterian Church, Iowa City’s 10:30 celebration of World Communion, with discussion/ meet and greet afterward. Those wishing also to join in lunch with her following the discussion are cordially invited to do so, as well. Lunch reservations may be made with Paul Heidger of St. Andrew’s Mission, Outreach and Service Team, pmheidger@gmail.com or 319-430-1017. Paul is also the person to call if you would prefer to join her for supper in Iowa City that evening.
Frances’ heart is full and she is eager to share with us what has been happening to our sisters and brothers in Christ of whom we hear so little, and whose lives are affected by us so much. The Pacific Council of Churches represents 19 nations and many denominations. Frances herself is Methodist.
For further information or if you have any problems locating an event in time or place, or accessibility questions (to my best knowledge, all the churches are accessible) feel free to contact Lisa Ross Thedens at lrossthedens@gmail.com.
