Presbytery of East Iowa Anti-Racism Local Church Grant Application

The time is now.  We, the church, must commit our time and resources to anti-racism work.  As witnessed by the Black Lives Matter Movement and other efforts to examine systematic racism and white privilege, there is much to be learned before we can most effectively begin to participate in the building of God’s Kingdom where ALL of God’s people experience justice and the opportunity to flourish and live.  Most recently, as our denomination gathered for its General Assembly, it became quite clear that our siblings in Christ are still ill-equipped to understand racism, let alone combat it.

To this end, the Mission and Social Justice Team of the Presbytery of East Iowa (PEIA) invites local congregations of the PEIA to apply for grants of $500 to support anti-racism education and activism within the local PC(USA) churches.  Pastors, sessions, and other church leaders may apply for these grants, but only one grant per church will be awarded.

Churches that receive the grants will be asked to share updates with the Mission and Social Justice Team and will be expected to attend a presbytery-sponsored Anti-Racism event in 2021, once it is safe to gather in person.  At that event, there will be roundtable discussion, resource sharing, and a keynote speaker.  Grant recipients will also be invited to join a Facebook Group created for the purpose of sharing resources with one another.
